CID begins probe into online train ticket racket

CID Computer Crime Investigation Division informed Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali yesterday (20) that it has initiated an investigation into a racket in which individuals buy train tickets from the Sri Lanka Railway Department online and sell them to people at higher prices.

The investigating officers informed the Court that this investigation has been started based on a complaint made by the General Manger of Railways to the Computer Crime Investigation Division of the CID.

The Computer Crime Investigation Division of the CID informed the Court that it will investigate the incident and submit a progress report to the Court as soon as possible.

The issuing of railway e-tickets is operated by the Sri Lanka Railway Department with help from Mobitel.
