Collaborative efforts needed to look into welfare of war veterans, their families – Deputy Minister

Deputy Defence Minister Major Gen. Aruna Jayasekara (Retd) emphasised the necessity of implementing collaborative measures that prioritise the welfare of war veterans and their families.

The Deputy Minister made these remarks when he chaired a meeting held at his office in Colombo on Friday (17) to address the welfare issues of the families of fallen war heroes and disabled veterans.

Discussions focused on the progress made since the previous meeting and persistent challenges faced by families of fallen heroes and disabled veterans. The Committee underscored the importance of a systematic approach to resolving these issues effectively and efficiently.

The Committee reaffirmed its commitment to delivering impactful and sustainable outcomes.  Following the meeting, a media briefing was conducted to provide updates on the progress of the welfare measures being taken, where he emphasised that the Government remains dedicated to addressing the needs of these families and ensuring their well-being through prompt and practical solutions.

The Defence Additional Secretary, who also serves as the Welfare Committee Chairperson, Finance, Economic Stabilisation and National Policies Ministry Additional Secretary, Ranaviru Seva Authority Chairman, Pensions Department Director, Tri Forces Chiefs of Staff, relevant Directors of the Tri-Forces, and Tri Forces and Defence Ministry officers also attended the discussion.
