Collective effort of executive, legislature and judiciary essential for progress – Speaker
Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramarathna stated that his primary goal is to steer the legislature towards the betterment of the people through meaningful and respectful debate, seeking the cooperation of all parliamentarians in this endeavour.
Dr. Wickramarathna made these remarks during a media briefing held after paying homage at the Malwathu Maha Viharaya and receiving blessings from Malwathu Chapter Chief Prelate, Most Ven. Thibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thera on Saturday (4).
The Speaker stressed the need for all three branches – executive, legislative and judicial – to collaborate in fostering the well-being of the nation’s people through spiritual development.
He expressed confidence that the current parliament comprises representatives capable of working for the public’s welfare through productive discussions. He further noted that the public would soon discern the correctness of his decisions through the actions of the members.
He also stated his expectation of leading the legislature to introduce significant laws that positively impact the welfare of the people.
Earlier, the Speaker visited Sri Dalada Maligawa to pay his respects, where he was received by Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela. Subsequently, he proceeded to the Malwatte Maha Viharaya to meet the Chief Prelate and receive blessings.
The Chief Prelate commented that the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ programme initiated by the Government addresses a timely need, emphasising the importance of focusing on spiritual purity alongside physical cleanliness.
The Thera highlighted that if individuals achieve spiritual cleanliness, there would be no necessity to ‘clean’ the country anew, as this would naturally become part of the people’s behaviour.
