Galle District champion women’s tug of war team

The 34th National Youth Sports Festival witnessed Colombo District men and Galle District women emerging as champions in the Tug-of-War Championship.

Organized by the National Youth Services Council under the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, the event took place at the National Youth Services Centre in Maharagama on October 6 and 7. In a thrilling competition, the Colombo men’s team triumphed, with Gampaha District men as runners-up and Puttalam District men securing third place.

On the women’s side, the Kuruengala District team secured the runners-up position, while Anuradhapura District girls claimed third place. A total of 26 teams participated in each segment of the tournament.

Colombo clinch Carrom titles

In the Women’s Individual Carrom Championship held at the Sri Lanka Carrom Association, Colombo District secured the title, with Urban Youth as runners-up and Jaffna District in third place. Colombo District also dominated the men’s Individual Carrom Championships, beating Badulla District to take the top spot. Kegalle District secured third place in this event.

The Mixed Carrom Championship saw Colombo District emerge as champions, with Kandy District as runners-up and Badulla District in third place. The final phase of the 34th National Youth Sports Festival is scheduled to take place from November 16 to 19 at the Sugathadasa Stadium.
