A Physics Museum was opened at the University of Colombo in conjunction with the 104th anniversary of the University’s Department of Physics.
The Museum, a brainchild of the head of the Department of Physics Professor Chandana Jayaratne, was opened by Vice-Chancellor Senior Professor H.D. Karunaratne.
The Museum houses scientific instruments used since the inception of the Physics Department at the Colombo University.
These scientific instruments which were used in the past for the education of the students of the Physics Department has been used by Sri Lankan physicists and astronomers produced by the University and now scattered around the world, including at NASA in USA.
A felicitation ceremony for retired academic and non-academic staff members of the Physics Department was also held.
Dean of the Faculty of Science, Senior Prof. Upul Sonnadara, Vice Chancellor of the University of Vocational Technology, Prof. Mahesh Edirisinghe, and academic and non-academic staff members of the Physics Department participated in this event.
