Committee questions about building constructed under Hatton Railway Station Development Project not been utilized

The Sectoral Oversight Committee on Environment, Natural Resources & Sustainable Development questioned officials present why the building constructed under the Hatton Railway Station Development Project has not been utilized for two years. The Committee was of the view that all relevant institutions should have proper coordination between each other and should work towards resolving existing issues to achieve the maximum out of such projects.

This was discussed at length when the Sectoral Oversight Committee on Environment, Natural Resources & Sustainable Development re-examined the current progress regarding the Siyatha Uyana Project, the Welikada Prison Project, and the Hatton Railway Station Development Project, which were imitated and ceased by the Urban Development Authority.

This was taken up for discussion when the Sectoral Oversight Committee on Environment, Natural Resources and Sustainable Development met in Parliament recently (12) under the Chairmanship of Hon. Ajith Mannapperuma.

Officials representing relevant government institutions including the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing, Urban Development Authority, Ministry of Tourism and Lands, Road Development Authority, Government Valuation Department, Sri Lanka Railway Department, Commissioner General of Prisons were present at this Committee meeting held.

The Committee further inquired into the progress of the Siyatha Uyana Project, the Welikada Prison Project. Following careful consideration, the committee instructed the respective officials to take the measures required to achieve the goal of the said projects.

Member of Parliament Hon. Jayantha Ketagoda and Hon. (Dr.) Thilak Rajapakshe, Member of the Committee was present in this committee meeting held.
