Yesterday (15) there was a consensus in the Supreme Court (SC) regarding the petitions filed by several parties including Cricket Associations against the introduction of new sports regulations by the Sports Minister.
This was revealed when several petitions filed by the Minister of Sports asking for the removal of the Interim Order issued by the Court of Appeal suspending the sports regulations were considered before a three-member Supreme Court Bench.
The lawyers representing both parties informed the Court that a settlement could be reached regarding this matter. Accordingly, the new regulations presented by the Sports Minister regarding Sri Lanka Cricket will be effective from August 1. Also, as previously planned, the Sri Lanka Cricket election will be held on May 20 and it will be held according to the old sports regulations.
The new elected office-bearers will have a tenure as per the old sports regulations.
Accordingly, the petitioning parties agreed to withdraw the appeal petitions filed in the Supreme Court and the Writ Petitions filed in the Court of Appeal regarding these new regulations of the Minister.
Accordingly, the Bench allowed to withdraw the petitions filed before the Supreme Court.
