Constable, another arrested for breaking into house

A constable and his friend who broke into a house in Siripura, pretending to be officers of the Central Anti-corruption Unit in Walana had been arrested by Siripura police.

The constable is attached to the Ratnapura Police Station. A resident of Dehiattakandiya, Dolakande, he had come to the village for the New Year holidays and had gone to a house in Siripura, Medagampitiya with a friend on a motorcycle.

Wearing full face helmets, they had gone to the house of a person who was previously arrested for illegal drugs and an assault.

He is an employee of the Angoda Mental Hospital. The police officer and his friend had entered the house claiming to be officers from the Walane Anti-corruption Unit. The police officer had also shown his police identity card.

They had asked the owner of the house for hidden drugs. However, the owner of the house had identified the policeman’s friend and shouted for help. When neighbours had approached the house hearing his shouts, the two had fled leaving even their motorcycle behind.

According to a complaint by the house owner to the Siripura Police Station, a team of officers including the OIC had come to the location and confirmed the identity of the owner of the motorcycle. Thereafter, the constable and his friend had been arrested.
