Construction of Getambe flyover with Hungarian assistance resumes after debt restructuring – Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana
Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana joined the representatives of the Hungarian government for a special observation tour of the resumption of the construction work of the Getambe flyover.
The Hungarian government is providing loan assistance to resume the construction work of the Getambe flyover that had been stalled midway, and has recommenced following the signing of the foreign debt restructuring agreement in Sri Lanka.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Gunawardhana said, “During the special observation tour with the representatives of the Hungarian government of the resumption of the Getambe flyover construction, I explained the current status of the construction of the bridge to the Hungarian representatives and pointed out the importance of completing the construction of this bridge as a solution to the traffic congestion in this area of Kandy, which is highly populated and is an area in Kandy which is religiously, culturally and socially important.
“After that, I visited and received the blessings of Venerable Kappitiyagoda Siri Wimala Thera, Anunayaka of the Sri Lanka Ramanya Maha Nikaya, at the Rajopavanarama Temple in Getambe.
“I also pointed out to Ven. Siri Wimala Thera that the opportunity will arise after the successful negotiations with the Hungarian government representatives to construct this flyover which will be started and finished soon.”
State Minister for Investment Promotion Dilum Amunugama, Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Highways Ranjith Rubasinghe, Marton Laszlo, Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka –Hungary (CEO – Betonutepito) representing the Hungarian Government, Economic and Commercial Counselor of the Hungarian Embassy in New Delhi Levente Kardos, Director General of Road Development Authority Priyantha Suriyabandara, Director in-charge of the Project Nalinda Ratnayake, executive officers of Road Development Authority, Railway Department and other government agencies were present.
