A constable working in the Southern Highway Division, who attacked a person with a bottle in a hotel in the Madiha area of Matara and fled into hiding, has been remanded until October 30, after surrendering to the Matara Court.
The attack had taken place on October 11 during a drunken quarrel between the two parties at the hotel.
The person who was attacked had filed a complaint with the Matara Police on the same day and was hospitalized. According to the complaint, the assault was carried out by a constable attached to the Aparekka Sub-Command Station of the Highway Division.
Matara Police said that this constable had been absconding, but had appeared before the Matara court on Wednesday (25) and was remanded by the Magistrate until October 30.
