Corruption Case : Former Minister C.B. Ratnayake released on bail

Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama today (16) released on bail former Minister C.B. Ratnayake in connection with a corruption charge filed under the Money Laundering Act.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption had arrested Ratnayake over allegations of illicit earnings exceeding Rs. 57.3 million. 

The investigation was conducted by the Bribery Commission’s Assets Investigation Division under Section 23(a)(1) of the Bribery Act.

C.B. Ratnayake was released on two sureties of Rs. 2 million each and imposed a travel ban preventing him from leaving the country.

Ratnayake, who previously served as Minister of Sports, Transport, and Livestock, had been in remand custody until today’s order. (Newswire)
