Country’s development recommenced under President’s leadership – Justice Minister
Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms Minister Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, PC attended the opening ceremony of the development of Pannipitiya, Depanama, Mahawatta Road under the project of 1,500 kilometres of road reconstruction in the year 2024, on Thursday (29).
In response to a question raised by the media regarding the Speaker’s decision on the appointment of the new IGP, the Minister pointed out that despite the amendment of the Constitution and the appointment of 10 members to the Legislative Council, the reason for this problem is that the representative to be appointed representing the minor parties has not yet been named.
The Minister also stated that the Speaker is facing a practical problem due to this issue, and if anyone believes that there is any legal problem in the Speaker’s decision, the best place to get the interpretation of the legal issues of the Constitution is the Supreme Court.
He also said, “In the past three years, the development activities of this country have stalled. Easter attack, Covid pandemic and economic crisis caused this situation. Under such a situation, the development started again under the leadership of the current President.
“In the countries where the economy of the world collapsed, it took five or six years and even more to recover. But within a year and a half, the economy of our country was restored. We have identified the reason for the collapse of our country’s economy.
Agriculture and industrial sectors of this country should be developed. A loan scheme has been introduced for small and medium enterprises. Under the provisions of the Highways and Road Development Ministry, the development of 1,500 kilometres of roads across the country commenced today.”
The Minister also mentioned that many more roads will be renovated in the Maharagama constituency in the future.
Former Municipal Councillors of Maharagama Municipal Council, officials of Road Development Authority and local residents joined this event.
