Kaduwela Police said that a man who stole mobile phones while travelling with his girlfriend on a stolen motorcycle was arrested with heroin in Pittugala, Malambe. Police also found drugs weighing 5.4 grams
in his possession. Kaduwela Police OIC K.Weerasinghe said that 27 mobile phones worth more than Rs.2 million were found during the lengthy interrogation of the suspect.
Police said that they had continuously received complaints that a couple had been robbed by a scooter, especially women, who were travelling on the road in Kaduwela, Biagama, Athurugiriya, Navagamuwa, Malambe, Kottawa and Talangama in the past six months.
While the suspect was arrested and interrogated while he was staying in a boarding house in the Kananathota area in Athurugiriya, after identifying the suspect woman who was in a nearby relative’s house, it has been revealed that both of them committed the robbery together.
A police officer said that it was revealed that the motorcycle used for the robbery was also stolen from the Ja-Ela.
The arrested suspect is a 27-year-old resident of Uswatte. The suspect is to be produced before the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court.
