Court archives fire, a result of arson

Investigations have revealed that the fire which broke out on Wednesday morning in the archive of the Akkaraipattu Magistrate and District Court was due to an arson attack.

Officials of the Government Analyst’s Department who inspected the location are also of the view that the fire was deliberately caused.

They say that the fire did not originate from an electrical leak or natural causes.The investigations carried out by the Akkaraipattu Police have revealed that some type of fuel was used to ignite the fire.

It had been possible to extinguish the fire with the help of a water bowser. But the police say that almost all the case files in the archive had been destroyed by fire.
