Court of Appeal decision on Diana Gamage’s writ petition to be announced today

The decision of the Court of Appeal regarding the petition filed requesting to issue a writ to revoke the position of the Member of Parliament of State Minister Diana Gamage as she is a British citizen is to be announced today (06).

The hearing related to the petition was completed by the Court of Appeal on April 3. In the petition filed by Oshala Herath, a social activist. State Minister Diana Gamage, Controller of Immigration and Emigration, Public Security Minister, General Secretary of Samagi Jana Balavegaya MP Ranjith Maddumbandara, Election Commission and its members, General Secretary of Parliament and others have been named as respondents.

The petition states that a citizen of another country cannot hold a Parliamentary post according to the Constitution of the country.
