Deadline for applying for postal vote extended

Elections Commissioner General Saman Sri Ratnayake said that the deadline for accepting postal vote applications related to the Presidential Election, which was scheduled to end at midnight on August 05, has been extended to midnight on August 09 (Friday).

Accordingly, applications must be sent to the respective district election offices before midnight on August 9.

Ratnayake said that to avoid the possible delay in receiving the applications, it is preferable to deliver the completed postal vote applications by hand, on August 8 and 9, to the District Election Office instead of sending them by post.

He further stated that it would be better to separate the applications according to each district in separate envelopes and deliver them by hand to the district election office where the certifying officer’s office is located.

He also emphasised that this deadline will not be extended again for any reason.
