Differently-abled should get driving licences – SJB MP

SJB MP Ajith Mannapperuma yesterday requested the State Transport Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna in Parliament not to block the chances of certain categories of differently-abled people getting driving licences.

The MP made this request after the State Minister announced that the circular issued by the Motor Transport Department has suspended the facilitation of differently-abled persons to obtain driver’s licences.

The MP said disabled people will be given driver’s licences without considering them as special groups in other countries and it is important for Sri Lanka to follow that concept.

Countries such as Singapore and Australia give driver’s licences to disabled people. It is not done in our country. It is wrong to stop this. It is wrong to ignore their requirements.
