Dilma Auto Trading manufactures Lanka’s first three wheeler

Dilma Auto Trading engaged in importing of Three Wheeler and Motor Bike spare parts since 2003 has a locally manufactured three wheeler. Branded as ChangE DP 200 it will be launched next year for a price tag of under Rs. 1 million.

Managing Director, Dilma Auto Trading, Chamdima Dias said that popularly known as the ‘common man’s vehicle’ there is a demand for three wheelers. “With the import ban three wheelers imports too stopped and today the same three-wheel fleet is operating with few modifications. We also the same three wheelers are being resold again and again showing there is a demand for three wheelers.”

“Our company which commenced its operations in 1995 in a very small scale and incorporated as a limited liability company in 2014 maintains a close relation with Indian OEM (Original Equipment) companies to ensure supplying of quality auto parts for the local market. With our business growing, through hard work and capitalizing available market opportunities we started manufacturing rubber and plastic products for Three Wheelers.”

“We found out that our locally manufactured rubber and plastic products for Three Wheelers were in big demand and we decided to take the next step in assembling a locally manufactured Three Wheeler tailor-made to meet local standards. As we already partner with the leading Indian OEM auto parts suppliers, maintain very satisfactory relations with local merchants and mainly due to the increasing demand of a brand new three wheeler we decided to move in the manufacturing segment.”

Dilma Auto Trading have already designed the prototype three wheeler and to fine tune it and get more technical inputs and assist in providing quality certification to obtain licenses also sought assistance from National Engineering Research and Development Centre (NERD) in Ja Ela.” He said that they have a value addition in the excess of 40% for this and with sales increasing more local inputs would be added.

Dilma Capital Holdings Private Limited was founded in 2014 as a strategic move to establish a group of companies and facilitate Dilma Auto Trading with various motor vehicles related products and today has five other businesses: Petroleum System International, Desinghe Pathirage Motor Company, DAT Management Services, Dilma Poly Preen Engineering and Dilma Capital Holdings.

“We also hope to move towards producing an electric three wheeler soon.”

NERD Director General Dr. Jayathu G Samarawickrama said that the locally assembled three wheeler is of very high standard and has added features to meet the local needs.
