Activities for the disbursement of the increased organic and chemical fertiliser subsidy for the farmers for the 2024/25 Maha season paddy cultivation commenced yesterday (14).
Minister Vijitha Herath, while speaking to the media, said that accordingly, Rs. 15,000 per hectare will be released during the first phase which commenced yesterday and an additional amount of Rs. 10,000 per hectare will be released during the second phase.
According to a directive by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who is also the Agriculture Minister, the fertiliser subsidy will be directly credited to the recipients’ bank accounts to ensure efficient delivery.
Minister Herath said that the fertiliser subsidy will be provided to farmers starting from Ampara and then to farmers in Polonnaruwa, Anuradhapura and the Mahaweli region.
The new NPP government’s policy outlines a commitment to providing fertiliser and other agricultural inputs at reasonable prices, along with subsidies for both chemical and organic fertiliser, all in line with good agricultural practices.
