On the occasion of the Sinhala and Hindu New Year, a significant event took place as dry ration packs were distributed to the residents of ‘Vikumpura’ village on 29 March 2024. This village holds special significance, having been established during the tenure of Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu as the Commander of the 542 Infantry Brigade.

The event was graced by the Commander of the Army as the chief guest. The villagers’ heartfelt appreciation was evident in their decision to rename the village from Narikadu to ‘Vikumpura’ in honour of the Commander’s contributions. Originally, Narikadu had served as a refuge for displaced individuals from the Mannaram district during times of conflict. This renaming gesture mirrors another village, Janakpura, named after Major General Janaka Perera. It highlights the deep-rooted gratitude towards leaders who have played pivotal roles in community development and welfare.

Mrs. Janaki Liyanage, the President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), also participated in the event. The ASVU’s provision of dry ration packs to 36 families in ‘Vikumpura’ village further exemplified the commitment to supporting and uplifting the lives of the community members.
