Doctor robbed of Rs. 1.7 Mn worth of gold jewellery

The Matara Headquarters Police have started an extensive investigation to arrest a suspect who broke into the house of a doctor working at the Matara General Hospital and stole over Rs. 1,700,000 worth of gold.

Thieves broke into the doctor’s house located on Matara Mada Road on October 24.

The thief entered the house by breaking a window and stole Rs. 1,060, a bottle of alcohol, an umbrella, a book bag, three eight-and-a-half pound gold necklaces, four bangles, two rings, four pairs of earrings and a pendant.

The doctor told the police that the value of these items is Rs. 1,736,260.

When checking the security cameras, it has been found that the thief came out of a bus and committed this theft. Further investigations have revealed that he has come from the Galle Dewata area. The police believe that they will be able to arrest the suspect along with the stolen goods soon.
