Dr. Piyasena Wickramaratne passes away

Dr. Piyasena Wickramaratne, who was an expert poet as well as a well-known translator, has passed away.

A Presidential Award winner, he said goodbye to his teaching career and worked as a translator and journalist for Lake House for about 25 years. Wickramaratne was a well-known poet among Indian poets and he had compiled a collection of poetry spanning 60 years, which is still considered the best collection of poetry in India.

He has written many books and in 1999, he was awarded a doctorate for his research work “Mihi Madalen Eha”. This is a great work that combines all religions, philosophy, psychology, etc.

Dr. Wickramaratne, the elder brother of J. Sheela Wickramaratne, who was a senior journalist of the Dinamina newspaper, had been ill for a short time. He was 89 at the time of his death . Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
