Dulan’s silver spearheads Sri Lanka’s record-breaking day

Sri Lanka made its presence known by winning four medals, propelling the nation to the 14th spot in the medals table on the fourth day of the fourth Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, China on Wednesday.

Adding to the two gold medals secured on day three, Sri Lanka clinched two silver medals and two bronze medals, bringing their total medal count to six. This achievement earned them the 14th rank among the participating Asian countries.

Samitha Dulan Kodithuwakku emerged as a standout athlete, winning the Silver Medal in the Men’s Javelin Throw (F64) final. In the Women’s Long Jump T47 final, Janani Dhananjana secured a silver medal with a jump of 4.89 meters, while Kumudu Dissanayake claimed the bronze with a jump of 4.76 meters.

An outstanding performance was also witnessed in the Men’s Shot Put F63 final, where Palitha Bandara achieved a personal best of 14.15 meters, earning the bronze medal and completing the fourth medal of the day for Sri Lanka.

Dulan, a left-handed javelin thrower, exhibited his remarkable skills by launching the javelin an impressive distance of 64.09 meters, securing the silver medal. The gold and bronze medals in this event were claimed by Indian athletes. Notably, Dulan also set a new Asian Para Games record, surpassing the previous record of 56.29 meters.

The gold medal in the Men’s Javelin Throw went to India’s Sumit Antil, who not only secured the top spot but also broke both the Asian Para Games record and his own World Record with an astonishing throw covering a distance of 73.29 meters.
