Dynamic Principal retires

Rahula Primary School Principal Nayana Kularathne retired yesterday (7) after serving the school as Principal for 12 years.

Although Rahula Primary School located in Narangodapaluwa village of Ragama is not a school with a large number of students, it has become an exemplary school among the primary schools in the Negombo region, with a high pass percentage at scholarship examinations, due to the efforts of Principal Nayana Kularathne.

In this recent progress in the school’s 109-year history, Principal Lalanangani Nayana Kularathne has an honourable place.

Nayana Kularathne, who began work as the Deputy Principal at Narangodapaluwa Primary School on May 13, 2010, became its principal on November 4, 2011.

During this period, she expanded the school’s buildings and completed the landscaping through the ‘Lama Mithru’ scheme.

Many features such as the two-storied main building, the auditorium with a stage, the front Buddha chamber and the playground are still visible today as the result of her work.

While busy with these activities, she did not give up her interest in her education and in 2015, she acquired a Post Graduate Diploma in Management.

In 1994, she did the Diploma of Post Graduate Studies at the University of Colombo, where she won first place in the island.

In the meantime, she worked as an external lecturer for the National Institute of Education’s Bachelor of Education degree for teacher training, and as a lecturer for teacher students studying for the postgraduate course at the University of Colombo.

She was also working as lecturer at the Gampaha branch of the Open University of Sri Lanka.
