Easter attacks FR case: Former President, three others ordered to submit their assets, liabilities before Dec. 30
The Supreme Court yesterday (2) ordered former President Maithripala Sirisena and three others to submit their assets and liabilities through an affidavit on or before December 30. This order was given by a Bench of seven Judges of the Supreme Court after considering the facts regarding the motions filed against the four persons including the former President for not paying the compensation amount ordered to be paid in full that was ordered before violating the basic human rights of the people by failing to prevent the Easter Sunday terror attacks despite receiving intelligence information prior to the incident taking place.
The respondents in the relevant Fundamental Rights petitions, former President Maithripala Sirisena, former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando, former Inspector General Pujith Jayasundara, and former State Intelligence Service Head Nilantha Jayawardena were ordered to file statements of their assets and liabilities through affidavits before December 30, 2023.
The Supreme Court then decided to grant time to the respondents till June 30, 2024 to pay the compensation stipulated by the judgment in question. Also, the Attorney General was ordered to submit individual progress reports regarding the disciplinary measures taken against the former head of public service and on paying the compensation to the victims by the respondents by December 30, 2023.
These petitions were called before the seven-member Supreme Court Judge Panel consisting of Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya, Buwaneka Aluvihare, Murdu Fernando, S.Thurairaja, A.H.M.D. Nawas, Kumudini Wickramasinghe and Shiran Gunaratne.
