EC ready for General Election any time – Chairman

The Election Commission stated that it is ready to hold the Parliamentary General Election at any given time this year.

Election Commission Chairman R.M.A.L. Rathnayake said that the Election Commission is well-equipped and geared to conduct the General Election without any obstacles in 2024.

He further said that the General Election can be held between 52 and 66 days after the dissolution of the parliament. Nominations will be called within 7 to 17 days following the dissolution of parliament and thereafter, the Parliamentary General Election will be held within 5 to 7 weeks time period.

The  Election Commission Chairman further said that the list of registered voters that was used for the Presidential Election will be used for the upcoming Parliamentary General Election as well.
