EC urged to allow postal voting for journalists

State Media Minister Shantha Bandara told Parliament yesterday that request will be made with Election Commission (EC) give an opportunity for Sri Lankan journalists who have the Media ID to vote by post in the upcoming elections.

“There are 17 registered television channels and 52 radio channels in our country. Journalists working in these media organisations do not get the opportunity to vote in many elections as they are engaged in duty on election days. Most of them are often on live broadcasts and telecasts on election days. So, Journalists made a request to me in this regard. Therefore I propose that journalists be given postal voting rights,” the State Minister said.
