The Cyclonic Storm Michaung over the west-central Bay of Bengal was located near latitude 15.2 degrees N and longitude 80.3 degrees E, at 08.30hrs yesterday (5), about 615km north of Jaffna.
The system was likely to move northwards and cross south Andhra Pradesh coasts around 14.30hrs yesterday (5).
Hence, the effect on the weather over the island by the storm is gradually decreasing, the Meteorology Department said. Several spells of showers can be expected in the Western Province and in the Galle and Matara districts.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at in the Sabaragamuwa, Central, Eastern and Uva Provinces after 2.00pm.
Misty conditions can be expected in the Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva Provinces during the morning.
