Egg imports to begin in 10 days

The State Trading Corporation (STC) announced that it will resume the egg imports within the next 10 days. STC Chairman Asiri Walisundara stated that the procurement process is already underway.

The decision to import eggs comes after the Cabinet approved the move, following the surge in local egg prices, which have surpassed 50 rupees per egg. Walisundara mentioned that the imports are intended to stabilise the market.

The plan involves importing 30 million eggs per month to meet the demand and control prices.
