The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by Trade, Commerce and Food Security Minister Nalin Fernando to import required stocks of eggs to stabilise the price of an egg in the market and supply eggs for the bakery industry, Cabinet Spokesman and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana said.
He was speaking at the weekly Cabinet media briefing held at the Government Information Department yesterday.
As per the cabinet decision taken on March 18, 2024, Sri Lanka State Trading (General) Corporation has imported 224 million of eggs so far. Over 95 percent of the imported eggs has been distributed among the consumers at Rs.37 per egg and the duration given for import of eggs was halted on April 30.
