Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said in Parliament yesterday that electricity tariffs will be reduced from July 1.
The Minister presented to the House how the price of a unit of electricity will be reduced when electricity tariffs are reduced. He further said that the CEB has proposed to reduce the electricity tariff for the category between 0 and 30 units by Rs.2 from Rs.8 to Rs. 6 per unit, and for the category between 30 and 60 units by Rs.11 from Rs.20 to Rs.9.
The Minister further mentioned that the proposal related to reduction of electricity charges will be forwarded to the Public Utilities Commission tomorrow or Monday.
