Elpitiya PS election to be held on Saturday

The Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha (PS) Election is scheduled to be held next Saturday, October 26. The Commissioner General of Elections Saman Sri Ratnayake said that the election campaign activities by all candidates, contesting political parties and independent groups must be ended by 12:00 midnight tonight 23.

The Election Commission stated that the Silent Period which commences from midnight tonight 23, will continue until the Elpitiya PS Election is held on Saturday, October 26 and the results are announced.

Eight recognised political parties and one independent group will be contesting the Elpitiya PS election.

Accordingly, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), National People’s Power (NPP), Janasetha Peramuna, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), Podujana Eksath Peramuna, United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA), Jathika Janatha Pakshaya, Devana Parapura party and 01 independent group will be contesting the small election of the Elpitiya PS of the Galle district to elect the Chairman, Deputy Chairman and the members of the local council.

55,643 votes have been registered for 17 constituencies for the Elpitiya PS election and voting will be held in 48 polling stations to elect 28 members for the local council. The number of candidates to be nominated is 17 for the first nomination paper and 14 for the supplementary nomination paper. The representation of women candidates is 02 for the first nomination paper and 07 for the supplementary nomination paper.
