EPDP vows to support President at September Poll

The Eelam People’s Democratic Party (EPDP) has decided to support President Ranil Wickremesinghe at this year’s Presidential Election, Party Media Spokesman, Aiyathurai Sirirangeswaran said in Jaffna yesterday.

He said this while attending a special press conference at the Jaffna Media Association Hall.

He said that EPDP Leader Douglas Devananda, who was elected every time by people’s vote has served continuously as a Minister in this country for thirty years because the EPDP party is always with the Tamil people in the North and East.

He emphasised that Minister Douglas Devananda is serving the people as a Minister through politics in accordance with the political  goal of “Independence of the Federal State” and that his only weapon and strength is the Tamil people and their rights. He stated that there have been signs that a number of candidates from the south will contest this year’s Presidential Election and that the EPDP party has no desire to be a pawn of any of the candidates or represent them. He further stated that since present President Ranil Wickremesinghe is the only leader who can recover and rebuild the country when compared to the present situation and the past. That is why the party has decided to support the President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
