Examinations Commissioner General Amith Jayasundara said yesterday that necessary arrangements have been made to start the evaluation of the answer sheets of the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination.
He said that the evaluation of the answer sheets will be started as soon as the instructions are received from the relevant authorities.
Jayasundara stated that it is currently not possible to start the evaluation of the answer sheets related to the examination because a group of parents have filed a case in Court and another group has submitted a complaint to the Human Rights Commission with regard to the problematic situation which arose due to the alleged leak of some questions in this year’s Scholarship Examination.
The Examinations Commissioner General said that the results can be released within a month after the evaluation of the answer sheets has started.
He said that steps will be taken to release the results of the Grade 5 Scholarship Exam on schedule so that there will be no obstacle to enroll children in the sixth grade to schools in mid-January of next year.
Jayasundara said that the results were released within a month after the evaluation of the Grade 5 Scholarship Exam last year and free marks will be awarded for the three questions that were reportedly leaked this year.
He said that it has been a month since the Grade 5 Scholarship Exam was held on September 15, and the evaluation of the answer sheets has been delayed because the investigations regarding the leaked questions have not been completed.
He further stated that 323,000 candidates appeared for the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination this year and the examination was held at 2,849 centres across the country.
