Excise officer robbed, injured in Mathugama drugs raid

Mathugama Police said that three persons had attacked a Excise Special Operations Unit officer with a sharp weapon and robbed him of Rs.245,000 and fled.

According to information received by the Special Operations Unit of Excise that there drug trafficking is rampant in the Mathugama Sirikandura area, the Excise officers had disguised themselves as drug dealers and come to the area and met them.

Police said that the drug traffickers had misled an Excise official and had taken him to a forested area and assaulted him with a sharp weapon, robbed him of his money and fled. The robbers had attacked the individual with a sword and the right hand of the officer had been injured.

He is currently receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital. Police have identified the suspects who attacked the officers and are conducting investigations to arrest them. Investigations are being carried out under the instructions of Mathugama HQI Chief Inspector Parakrama Udawatta.
