Excise officers in Marine Drive shooting granted bail

Four Excise Officers who were arrested over the shooting that took place in Marine Drive, Bambalapitiya on Monday (7), were released on bail yesterday after they were presented before the Colombo Magistrate’s court.

These excise officers were arrested after opening fire at a SUV suspected to be involved in drug smuggling. Police also seized the pistol assigned to the Excise Inspector that was used in the shooting. Excise officials have told the Police that the SUV was transporting drugs and it was chased by them following a tip-off.
