Expelled SLFP MPs storm into Darley Road after Court verdict
Calls for all factions to unite under one leadership :
Maithripala says will present facts to Court, regain control:
MPs Duminda Dissanayake, Mahinda Amaraweera and Lasantha Alagiyawanna, who were expelled from their positions of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), called a special press conference as the Sri Lanka Freedom Party at the party headquarters yesterday (4).
This is after the Colombo District Court issued an interim restraining order preventing former President Maithripala Sirisena from serving as SLFP Chairman.
The three MPs who were removed from the SLFP recently said during the media briefing that they invite everyone to join the Sri Lanka Freedom Party in a new journey. The MPs further said that former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has resorted to court proceedings with deep regret, refusing to wait and watch the destruction happening to the SLFP.
Accordingly, an interim restraining order has been imposed on Maithripala Sirisena, who was the Chairman of the SLFP, preventing him from acting as the party’s Chairman in relation to a complaint filed by former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga.
However, after the Colombo District Court issued an interim injunction preventing former President Maithripala Sirisena from serving as the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, many party seniors had gathered at the SLFP headquarters at Darley Road, Maradana.
A group of former Chairman Maithripala Sirisena loyalists had also gathered at the SLFP headquarters where a heated atmosphere ensued. A senior member of the SLFP said that an acting Chairman for the party needs to be appointed speedily and that this is the best time to do it.
Meanwhile, former President Maithripala Sirisena said that he hopes to present his facts before the Court in the future regarding the issuance of an interim restraining order by the Colombo District Court preventing him from serving as the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.
