Failed attempt to kill prison warden

A group of Harak Kata’s followers attempted to kill a prison warden who strictly enforces the law in the prison, in a passenger bus in Weligama, on Saturday (05) evening. This officer is working in the Kirinda Puhulwella area.

The Police say that around six people boarded the bus in Weligama and attacked the officer. The prison warden told the Police that one of the people who came was hiding a T-56 weapon. The Police say that when the officer was attacked, the passengers on the bus protested and tried to protect him, so the mob failed to harm his life.

This officer has found about 50 cell phones that were illegally used by the inmates in the prisons.

This officer is currently admitted to Matara General Hospital and is being treated under security.

A Disciplinary Officer of Magazine New Remand Prison M.T.S.K. Marasinghe was also an officer who strictly enforced the law in the prison. A group of underworld criminals broke into his house in Rajasinghapura, Minuwangoda, in the early hours of last May 12, and held a pistol to the officer’s head and threatened him with death. The officers of the Criminal Investigation Department recently arrested a group of underworld people with firearms involved in this instance.

A prison jailer who raised his voice against such corrupt activities in the prison was also shot dead by the underworld. It was on August 3, 2019, in the Kuligoda area of Ambalangoda.

A group of underworld drug traffickers along with some corrupt Police officers falsely accused an officer named Perera, who was working in the remand prison and who dealt with the corrupt activities in the prison, of drug trafficking.
