“Failure of political leadership resulted youth-led protests”

Sarvajana Balaya Presidential Candidate entrepreneur Dilith Jayaweera spoke passionately about the failures of Sri Lanka’s political leadership and the resulting youth-led protests. He emphasised that the younger generation was driven to the streets by years of unfulfilled promises and political incompetence.

Addressing a rally held in Embilipitiya, as part of a ‘Dilith Gamata’ constituency meeting, he stressed, “For too long, our houses have been filled with policy statements, distributed every five years without any real progress. Are we to remain stagnant? Is there no path forward?” Jayaweera asked.

He recognised both domestic and foreign influences on the youth uprisings but placed the primary blame on the country’s self-serving politicians. “This is why our young people took to the streets, demanding change. There may indeed have been external factors, but these children were ignited by the selfishness of our own politicians,” he remarked.

Jayaweera called for new leadership, asserting that genuine transformation requires more than just rhetoric. “If you want real change, you need a new leader. You should feel that change,” he urged, underlining the necessity of a fresh and accountable direction for Sri Lanka’s future.
