Fake gem merchant arrested

Officers of Negombo Special Crime Investigation Division have arrested a man who while posing as a gem businessman from Beruwala sold several stone shaped objects made of glass to a person in Negombo,   for nearly Rs. two million, identifying them as gems. The 46-year-old suspect has been remanded until February 6 after being produced before the Negombo Magistrate’s Court.

The Police Media Unit stated that the suspect was arrested on Saturday evening at Kochchikade.” He had sold the glass objects to the person from Negombo for a sum close to Rs. two million,” Police said.
