Agriculture and Plantation Industries Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said that the final draft of the National Agriculture Policy has been submitted to the Cabinet for observation.
A group of representatives of the National Alternative Policy Centre met with Agriculture and Plantation Industries Minister Mahinda Amaraweera on Thursday (26) to present their proposals to the National Agriculture Policy.
Stating that the absence of a national policy for sustainable agriculture is a problem, the minister informed that the country needs a National Agriculture Policy that does not change when the government changes or when the Minister changes, so the work has been completed by now.
The National Alternative Policy Centre presented their policy ideas and proposals to the Minister under several sectors.
The proposals received from all sectors have been incorporated and prepared for the National Agriculture Policy. Also, all 225 members of Parliament were informed to submit their ideas and suggestions and the majority of the members submitted their suggestions.
The final draft of the National Agriculture Policy, which is currently submitted to the Cabinet, is to be submitted for Parliament’s approval after receiving the Cabinet approval.
The Minister informed the National Alternative Policy Centre that the proposals presented by the National Alternative Policy Centre can be included as an attachment at that time.
The representatives expressed their gratitude to the President for the merger of the Plantation Industry Ministry with the Agriculture Ministry.
