Embilipitiya Police have launched a comprehensive investigation regarding the disappearance of a T-56 firearm belonging to the Godakawela Police which was in the custody of Embilipitiya Court.
The Embilipitiya Magistrate’s Court (MC) Registrar had lodged a complaint with the Embilipitiya Police on Monday (20) stating that this firearm had gone missing along with the magazine containing 25 rounds of ammunition.
It is stated that this weapon had been in the custody of the court since October 25, 2005 in connection with a case heard in the Magistrate’s Court. Godakawela Police had issued an order on December 28, 2022 to the storekeeper of the court to release the firearm to the police in accordance with a request made to the court through a motion. Accordingly, during the search of this firearm to be released to the Godakawela Police, it was found that it was missing from the warehouse on January 16. Police said that the storekeeper had informed the Embilipitiya Chief Magistrate about it. Court had conducted an investigation to find the firearm which had been in the court warehouse. However, since it was not found a complaint was made to the police on Monday (20). Embilipitiya police have received complaints that four motorcycles that were in the custody of the Embilipitiya court have also gone missing. The complaints were received that, on December 01, 2022, two motorcycles, on January 13, 2023, one motorcycle and on March 1, 2023, one motorcycle had gone missing.
