First academy dedicated to climate change education launched
In a bid to promote ‘green’ executives and entrepreneurs Sri Lanka’s first academy dedicated to climate change and sustainability education powered by AI and IOT was launched.
This initiative was taken by founder of The Climata Academy, Clair Prakash as a joint venture between Climata Pvt Ltd and BCAS Campus. Co-founder/ CEO Engenuity AI, Gihan Mendis predicted that while the ‘Green Business’ would be a USD 20 trillion worth industry in the world by 2025 the share of Asia would be around USD 20 trillion. “To meet the demands of this opportunity we are launching this education initiative. Climate change is real and is moving faster than we think it is.”
“This is the first of its kind education institution which is dedicated to climate change and sustainability education powered by modern technology to equip people with the knowledge, skills & tools to address climate change & sustainability,” she said.
“Climate education is the most important, as addressing climate change requires a multi-pronged approach, and education is an essential piece of the puzzle.”
This ambitious initiative, powered by cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, aims to equip future generations to tackle the pressing environmental challenges of our time with real-life practical based learning with dedicated subjects such as AI & IoT powered Climate Smart Agriculture, AI & IoT powered Climate Smart Aquaculture, Sustainable Finance, Sustainable Marketing and Corporate Sustainability.
Non- Executive Chairman BCAS Rajendra Theagaraja said that Sri Lanka is yet to tap on the natural green resources that are idling in the ocean, river ways, jungles and via the sun and the wind.
“After the economic crisis we see President Ranil Wickremesinghe and the government focus on this segment and we believe that by creating entrepreneurs, startups and future workers geared for the green economy we too can contribute towards upscaling these investments.”
Theagaraja the former Managing Director Cargills Bank and HNB, DFCC Bank CEO said the launch of the Climate Academy marks a significant milestone in the country’s fight against climate change. He said that he was pleased to note that rural youth are adopting technology for the agro sector.
“By investing in education and empowering future generations, Sri Lanka is paving the way for a more sustainable and resilient future for all.”
