President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said that all the accusations leveled against the National Peoples’ Power during the Presidential election are false. The President was addressing an election rally in Beruwala on Sunday “The Opposition parties are raising their voices on the election platforms to send ordinary people to the Parliament”, he said.

He said that they are trying to enter Parliament to do business. He said that these politicians are in the habit of stealing, doing illegal work, smuggling chilli powder in to Parliament, and even secretly bringing knives inside too.

The President said that these politicians are raising their hands for all the wrong decisions and wasting public funds. The President said that foreign investors hesitate to come to the country as these politicians are corrupt.

He added that the Health Minister stole from medicines which were given to the public. Fisheries Minister gave permission to bring fish caught from China and Japan to Sri Lanka. Some Ministers were involved in importing substandard fertilizer to the country. The President added that some politicians were involved in buying fuel at higher prices above the market rates in order to make profit for them.

The President added that the government will start the digitalization project to make public service more efficient.  He also said that the rule of law should be maintained and investigations have already started into the allegations of frauds that have taken place “There are files pertaining to the alleged corruption and frauds of  politicians and these files have been kept at the Attorney General’s Department and the  Criminal Investigations Department”, he added.

The President said that he has issued directives to open these files and start investigations against those who were involved in frauds. “It is up to the officials concerned to conduct investigations into these allegations he said. He said that officials who are specialized in investigations into fraud and corruption are being appointed to conduct these investigations”.

“It is a Cabinet of less than 25. Deputy Ministers will also be appointed. After that, plans are made systematically to build this country. We will take care of the people until the country is built”, he said.

“We have increased the allowance of pensioners by Rs. 3,000. Salaries of public servants will be increased in the upcoming budget. Fertilizer subsidy is being provided. Arrangements have been made to provide fuel allowance for the fishermen”, he said.
