Former commando sniper arrested over aiding Harak Kata’s getaway

The Criminal Investigation Department has revealed that the former Commando sniper who was arrested on November 10 is being detained and interrogated. The sniper was removed from

the Army since he was arrested by Police for robbing a gold necklace from a woman in Matara. He is questioned due to the fact that he was involved in the alleged plan of the underworld to attack the Criminal Investigation Department and rescue the underworld goons known as ‘Harak Kata’ and ‘Kudu Salindu’. A senior Police officer said that the sniper was experienced in small-group warfare of the Army commando.

This suspect, who is currently working as a boat engine mechanic, is a resident of Gunawardena Mawatha in Matara. The soldier 35 years old, had gone to sea when he was initially wanted for arrest. The senior Police officer further stated that he was arrested on November 10, when he returned.

Police information revealed that this soldier is currently being held in a Terrorist Investigation Division cell. Three former soldiers of the commando regiment have been arrested and are being held under the provisions of the Prevention of Terrorism Act, in relation to the investigation regarding the plan to attack the Criminal Investigation Department and release ‘Harak Kata’ and ‘Kudu Salindu’.
