Former MP Jagath Kumara, who supported the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) at the last Presidential Election, while he was a Member of Parliament of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), officially announced yesterday that he would be leaving the SJB.
He announced this at a press conference yesterday.
He said that he is leaving the SJB due to the fact that its leader Sajith Premadasa has failed to act on certain irregularities occurring in the party and that he (Premadasa) has not done justice to the people who recently joined the party. Jagath Kumara further said that he will be working independently in the future.
He said that the SJB won four seats at the last General Election because he contested from the Colombo district, and that if he had not done so, the party would have won only three seats.
He said that although he was ready to withdraw from the contest due to pressure from certain SJB organisers during the last General Election, he did not do so because of the promises made by the party leader. He further stated that even though a month had passed since the election, Premadasa had not even made a phone call.
