Former Galle District MP and Deputy Minister Nishantha Muthuhettigama, who was remanded in custody for possessing a vehicle

assembled in Sri Lanka by forging documents and illegally imported parts, was ordered by Galle Chief Magistrate Isuru Netthikumara yesterday (27) to be released on cash bail of Rs.52,000 and two sureties of Rs.5 million each.

The Magistrate instructed Police to file a case against the Constable, the first suspect, the driver, who has currently been released on bail, in the relevant court for traffic offences and to find the owners of this vehicle and file a case against the suspects based on facts discovered. assembled in this country, without paying duty to the government. The first suspect constable who was the driver of the vehicle at that time had said that the vehicle belonged to former Deputy Minister Nishantha Muthuhettigama. Due to there being no legal licences, the vehicle and the Constable driver had been arrested and after being produced in court, the suspect Constable was remanded.

Constable Isuru Ruwansiri Bandara, attached to the Galle Police, was remanded. It was also revealed in Court that the Motor Vehicle Commissioner had been ordered to submit reports regarding the vehicle on several occasions, but the reports have not been provided yet.

Pradeep Madanayake, Prasitha Walgama, Vishwanatha Arambewela and a group of lawyers appeared on behalf of the suspect, the former Deputy Minister and the prosecution was led by Chief Inspector Mahendra Perera of the Panadura Walana anti-corruption unit.
