Foulplay suspected in death of lawyer in Pelmadulla

Pelmadulla police have started comprehensive investigation into the mysterious death of a female lawyer who were serving at the Pelmadulla and Rathnapura Magistrate’s courts.

Attorney Dushmanthi Abeynayake was found death in a mysterious manner at her house at Bulathwelgoda in Pelmadulla. Police said that the domestic aide in her house had found her dead on the bed when she arrived at the house yesterday morning.The domestic comes to her house in the morning to clean the house, prepare her meals and return back in the evening.

When she came to her house in the morning as usual,she had found her dead on the bed. She had told the police that deceased’s husband was not in the house when she came to the house yesterday morning. Police investigations have revealed that her husband had not been in the house following a dispute that erupted between them on Thursday night.

The lawyer’s husband who had returned form South Korea was engaged in business activities.They were married two years ago.Police said that the lawyer in question had married earlier too but she did not have children from both marriages.

Police said that her husband is a social person spending his time at funeral houses in the village and investigations have revealed that he usually comes to the house late night and the lawyer was not happy with this.

There has been disputes between them due to this situation. The police have received information that the couple had attended a dinner on Thursday (30) at the invitation of a relative who came from New Zealand.Police suspect that there had been an argument between them on Thursday night (30) when they returned from the dinner.

The Palamadulla Magistrate visited the house of the lawyer and carried out an inspection yesterday (31). A woman a resident of the area gave a statement to the magistrate on this occasion. Her family member had informed the police that the death is suspicious.

Police is investigating into an SMS forwarded by the victim to one of her family members on Thursday night.This message had explained how she was subject to assault on Thursday night

The body was also dispatched to Pelmadulla Hospitalfor post-mortem yesterday (31). Forensic expert Dr.H.D.S.K.S.Dissanayake gave an open verdict regarding the death and sent the body parts have been referred to the Government Analyst for a comprehensive report to ascertain the cause of her death.
