Four Kelaniya University students suspended over assault

Four students of Kelaniya University have been suspended with immediate effect related to the assaulting of a security officer at the premises.

The Kelaniya University Vice-Chancellor Senior Professor Nilanthi De Silva mentioned that a special committee has been appointed to investigate the assault incident.

The Vice-Chancellor said that an internal investigation has also commenced at the university level on the students involved in the incident related to the assault carried out on a university security officer.

A special police investigation is also underway based on a complaint lodged by the security personnel who faced the alleged assault incident. Meanwhile, the non-academic staff of the Kelaniya University went on strike throughout the day on Monday (4) asking to ensure their safety which they stated has been challenged after the assault incident on a security guard by a group of university students.

This comes in the wake of the temporary closure of the Kelaniya University from Monday (4) afternoon with the exception of the Medicine Faculty until further notice by the Administrative Authority of Kelaniya University.
