Free education no more helping children – NPP MP

0 73

NPP MP Dr. Harini Amarasuriya said in Parliament yesterday that free education will no longer help children  pursuing higher education to pass examinations and their performance is based on how much they spend on private tuition.

“According to Central Bank statistics, 40 percent of the expenditure on free education and health has been curtailed in Sri Lanka,” the MP said.

The MP stated this while speaking at the debate held to approve the provisions under the Appropriation Act.

“The tax policy should be associated with the economy. There is the question that the economic policy of this country is made for the sake of social security. Therefore, social justice cannot be expected from them,” MP Amarasuriya said.

“State Finance Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said that free education, health and social security in our country totally depends on tax payers money. He said that our children are fully enjoying free education. It is a big lie. It is a question of whether there is any free education that exists.

According to the figures of the Central Bank, 40 percent of the expenditure on health and education has been cut. This reflects that education and health are not free anymore. Today there are no children in Advanced Level classes in the schools.

The children get to a higher level through tuition. They are not going to school.

The whole school system is in a dangerous place today because schools are not allocated the money, facilities, and teacher training they need.
